Alawite regime challenged in Sanamein

The Alawite government of Bashir Al-Assad used live ammunition to retain control of the southern Syrian city of Sanamein. In addition, there was minor damage in Latakia, the Alawite heartland. Aleppo, the heart of the Sunni bourgeoisie and merchant class remains calm, without incident. Alawites, who are 12% of the population, will be able to retain control with help from the Sunni upper middle class merchants in Aleppo, who value stability, and the Orthodox Christians of Damascus, who value government provided advanced educational opportunities.
