May 9 Damascus suburb shut down

Human rights groups say a west Damascus suburb has been shut down with electricity cut, after protesters blocked a government building.
Homs and Deraa continue to be shut down by the Syrian police and military apparatus. Fifteen died in Homs after friday prayers. 250 were arrested in Sunni Banias.

Nicosia was outraged by UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon call for more flexibility and compromise. Cypriot Foreign Minister Stefaniou said peace talks and procedures have been set out by existing UN resolutions. He said there should be an encouragement of the less constructive side. Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan and UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon met today in Istanbul.
