May 9, Victory Day over Nazism

May 9 celebrates the victory over Nazism by the partisans. The GDR used to call it Tag des Sieges. Russians paid the highest price in the victory over Nazism. The mayor of Moscow just announced a plan to build 200 new Russian Orthodox churches in Moscow. Tito lead the partisans to victory over the Nazis in Yugoslavia, after being greatly outnumbered by Nazis, at Sutjeska. The Estonian bronze soldier in a Tallinn cemetery recalls the victory over Hitler and Nazism.

Dollfuss was a Catholic martyr of Nazism in Austria.

May 9 is the memorial of St. Gregory Nazianzus of Cappadocia, eastern Turkey.
