Armenia was the first nation to embrace Christianity, prior to Constantine and the Roman Empire. The ritual of the Armenian Catholic and Armenian Orthodox Churches dates back to antiquity, during the time of “the Last Pagans of Rome,” to borrow a phrase from Alan Cameron. The Armenian Orthodox unfortunately does not accept the Council of Chalcedon.
The stereotype of the Armenians in the Middle East is that they only care about money. It is a stereotype present in Lebanon, Jerusalem, Turkey and Cyprus. When Jack Kevorkian was asked what happens when you die, he said you stink in the ground or in a crypt. But then he reflected, if he were to see the “Logos” (My term, not his) on His throne, he would meekly ask “Why didn’t you make me smarter?” Well Mr Kevorkian, you could have studied Plato, Aristotle, St.Augustine, St. Thomas Aquinas and others on the immortality of the soul, rather than making suicide machines to less than humbly to play God. You could have worn a green scapular, to motivate you to humbly pray and seek the assistance of the Holy Ghost. You could have reflected on the final four things, Death, Judgment, Heaven and Hell.
