August 10 – Saint Lawrence Day

Saint Lawrence was a deacon to Pope Saint Sixtus, whose death preceded his own when captured by pagan Roman guards. St. Lawrence was told to hand over the treasure of the Church, so he presented the Roman Emperor with the poor of the Church. He died grilled on a gridiron, saying he was cooked on one side, it was time to flip him over. As one can see, he was a saint with a dry sense of humor.
